Tales of the Cocktail® New Orleans 2016

New Orleans and Chicago have a shared history when it comes to music. Cane & Table and Sportsman’s Club are bars that acknowledge and show respect to their place and historical setting in their respective towns. At this event we explore the connections between our two great cities through music and drink, bridging tradition and youth. Additionally, Scott McNiece of Uncanned Music will be on hand to record Chicago/New Orleans split reel of the musical content of the night, providing an audio account of the evening, for later playback at Sportsman’s Club.

Sportsman’s Club and Uncanned Music started their 'Wheel to Reel' series in early 2014 as a fun means of building the bar's library of mixtapes playable on the bar's reel-to-reel tape deck, as well as a chance to document their Chicago friends and family who DJ'd regularly at the bar. Since then Sportsman's Club's archive has grown to several dozen tape reels, including mixes recorded by national heavyweights such as Chairman Mao (EgoTrip, Red Bull Music Academy), Breakbeat Lou (Ultimate Breaks and Beats), and Dave Mata (Truth and Soul Records). This will be the first time Sportsman's Club's tape deck has left the house, coming to Cane & Table to record a collaborative NOLA/Chicago tape reel that will feature a New Orleans DJ on Side A and a Chicago DJ on Side B. Additionally, part of the proceeds will benefit local volunteer-run radio station WWOZ, which features New Orleans heritage music.
