Camper English is a San Francisco-based cocktails and spirits writer and speaker, and is the publisher/writer of Alcademics.com. He has contributed to Saveur, Details, Fine Cooking, Modern Farmer, Popular Science, the LA Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Whisky Advocate, and many other publications.


Camper has visited over 130 distilleries, blending houses, and bodegas in more than twenty countries, and has judged cocktail contests on three continents. He is a frequent speaker at cocktail conventions including Tales of the Cocktail, Portland Cocktail Week, Toronto Cocktail Week, Bar Convent Berlin, and the Manhattan Cocktail Classic. He was the winner of the Best Cocktail Writing category at Tales of the Cocktail 2011, and a recipient of the Legends Award at San Francisco Cocktail Week in 2012.


Camper earned a degree in physics from Boston University and worked both as a research assistant and as a software engineer before becoming a writer. He is a nerd who specializes in the science of cocktails and spirits, taking on projects studying everything from how to best dehydrate liqueurs to the importance of water in spirits’ flavor development to (especially) the study of clear ice.
