John Oliver began his journey into the wine & spirits industry 13 years ago when he worked with the Consumer Insights team at Moet Hennessy USA as their Nielsen data manager. After three years with MHUSA he landed a position on the distribution side as a Business Manager with R&R Marketing, part of the Charmer-Sunbelt Group network of distributors, based in New Jersey. In this role, John worked in conjunction with R&R’s key suppliers to track goals, manage pricing & profitability, establish programming and identify opportunities that would grow their business. After 3 years as a Business Manager, John was appointed Director of Marketing for R&R where he worked across the entire portfolio to identify opportunities that would activate brands locally in the New Jersey market. He also works with key retailers, bars and restauranteurs to identify marketing opportunities that help increase consumer traffic and build their business.
Throughout the past 6 years as Director of Marketing (NOTE: In January 2016, R&R Marketing changed its name to Breakthru Beverage New Jersey), John has develop a variety of industry-leading, cutting-edge programs and events that have driven consumer awareness and incremental business for key spirit & wine brands in Breakthru’s portfolio. He is the co-founder of the New Jersey Wine & Food Festival, an annual event that benefits The James Beard Foundation. He is the creator of The Iron Shaker, New Jersey’s leading bartender competition, and is on the board of the USBG NJ Chapter. In 2013 John developed The Artisan Group at Breakthru Beverage NJ. The Artisan Group is a go-to-market initiative designed to grow Breakthru’s boutique spirits portfolio in a targeted, focused manner. Since launching The Artisan Group initiative, this suite of craft spirit brands has seen year-on-year double-digit growth in New Jersey.
